In this program I've got some texture-rich ambient albums that we'll be highlighting on the program. My first featured artists are Atmøsphäre and Dionisaf that have come together to collaborate on an album that is a fantastic soundtrack for these cold, dark, wintry months, a collab out now on Chitra Records; and later in the program Minneapolis-based ambient artist Paperbark pulls out all the stops and illuminates our listening session with his bright and dreamy texture-rich album available in both CD and vinyl on Laaps Records. Artist Information

Atmøsphäre + Dionisaf

The artists Atmøsphäre and Dionisaf are no strangers to collaborations — in fact one of the hallmarks of both Ambient Cat Records and their parent label Chitra Records, is that their artist roster quite frequently participates in collaborations and remixes with one another. It’s the sort of collaborative community that makes it more exciting to be a part of the collective ambient community, seeking to work with one another to create amazing new works. Well Atmøsphäre and Dionisaf have paired up to create an immersive album submerged in wintry-like textures, muted and opaque resonance, and various degrees of noise, marked with the intent to create the impression of a snow-packed vista. If you’re looking for a complimentary soundtrack for the bleakness of the wintry months, this just may be your ticket.

Paperbark

Laaps Records is one of those labels that never ceases to amaze me, and this next featured album and artist is of no exception. In this instance the surprise was that this next artist lives in the same metropolitan region as me, in the Minneapolis area. Paperbark is the ambient project of Jon Mulville, who has been shaping rhythmic and textural soundscapes since 2016. His music is rooted in memory, as a way to process emotional fragments. His work is frequently guided by his time spent in nature in a response to a culture that often feels devoid of empathy, with the hopes of creating a space for reflection and deeper contemplation. His new album “Light Behind Me” marks his ninth release on Bandcamp with this latest one issued through Laaps Records on limited-run and hand-numbered CDs and vinyl. It’s sonic landscape is marked by varying levels of texture, brightly lit layers, dreamy atmospheric veneers, and other intriguing elements that make for a fantastic listening session.
